Clippers veteran Paul Pierce left Monday’s game against the Celtics with an ankle sprain and knee contusion, the team announced. He will not return.
Pierce was injured in the second quarter after he landing awkwardly while attempting a layup in traffic. He fell to the ground and grabbed his lower leg but was able to walk off under his own power.
Pierce drew contact from Jared Sullinger on the play and it appeared as though his right leg was pinned beneath him when he fell.
Pierce, 38, has played in 64 of the Clippers’ 73 games this season, making 36 starts. He is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game.
The Clippers went on to beat the Celtics 114–90.
