Frazier has 19 points, 13 assists, Pelicans top Nets 106-87

NEW YORK (AP) Tim Frazier showed off his game to the New Orleans Pelicans - and the Brooklyn crowd - with another solid performance that might help him stick around in the NBA next season.

Frazier had career highs with 19 points and 13 assists, Luke Babbitt added 21 points and the Pelicans beat the Nets 106-87 on Sunday.

''It's New York, you want to give it your best every time,'' said Frazier, who was signed for the rest of the season by New Orleans on March 26 after initially inking a 10-day contract with the Pelicans. ''I've got the opportunity with New Orleans for the rest of the year. I think we've got six or seven games left and you want to finish on the highest note that you can.''

Frazier was undrafted out of Penn State in 2014 and spent time with Philadelphia and Portland in between stints with Maine in the NBA Development League. He has scored in double-digits in nine of his 10 games with the Pelicans.

''I think Tim Frazier has done a really good job,'' coach Alvin Gentry said of the point guard. ''That's a tough position to play, but I think he's been really good at what he's done.''

The Pelicans finished with 31 assists against the Nets and have had 29 assists or more in three out of the last five games. Previously, the Pelicans only had two in the first 70 games.

''We put Timmy in the game and decided that we'd play small and see how that worked out, and it worked out great,'' Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. ''I thought we did a good job of moving the basketball. At the half we have 20 baskets. We got 19 assists off 20 baskets, which tells me that we were really moving the basketball.''

Alexis Ajinca added 16 for the Pelicans as the Nets lost their fifth straight game.

Sean Kilpatrick led the Nets with 15 points, while Henry Sims added a season-high 12 points and Markel Brown also had 12.

Thomas Robinson recorded his fourth straight double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Before the game, Nets coach Tony Brown said Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young would be shut down for the rest of the season.

''It's going to be hard, but that's when guys, especially on the bench, just have to step it up,'' Kilpatrick said. ''Now that everyone is getting more so an opportunity to play with those two being out, it gives, especially the fours and fives, an opportunity to show what they got.''

Both teams started off poorly as New Orleans missed its first seven shots and didn't score until the 6:24 mark of the first quarter. Brooklyn shot 4 for 25 to start the game.

The Pelicans attacked the rim and finished with 60 points in the paint and wound up shooting 55 percent.

Nets: Sergey Karasev handed out a career-high six assists.

Nets: Donald Sloan (upper respiratory) and Jarrett Jack (right knee) did not dress.
