Reports: 76ers hiring Bryan Colangelo to replace Hinkie as GM

The 76ers have moved quickly to replace the departed Sam Hinkie and will hire former Suns and Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo in the same role, John Gonzalez of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Hinkie resigned from his posts as general manager and president of operations on Wednesday. The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed news of the hiring, which ESPN’s Marc Stein called “imminent.”
Colangelo, 50, is the son of Sixers chairman of basketball operations Jerry Colangelo, who was hired and placed in charge in December as the organization reshuffled its decision-making structure. The younger Colangelo is a two-time NBA executive of the year, in 2005 and 2007, and worked under his father for 13 years in Phoenix. He built the Steve Nash-led Suns teams of the mid-2000s before joining the Raptors as president and GM in 2006. He stepped down with Toronto in 2013.

Multiple reports indicated that the Sixers attempted to install Colangelo alongside Hinkie in the front office to handle some of the personnel-related duties. Hinkie balked at the idea and resigned.
The 76ers are 10–68 with four games left in the season, worst in the league. Hinkie has been the team’s general manager since prior to the 2013–14 season, and the team has gone 47–195 in nearly three seasons since. The Sixers opened this season with an 18-game losing streak, and held a 1–30 record going into Christmas.
