Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors has won the NBA’s Coach of the Year award, the league announced on Tuesday.

Kerr missed almost all of training camp and the first 43 games of the regular season, but returned during the season to lead Golden State to a 34–5 finish, capping the greatest season in NBA history.

The Warriors went 39–4 to start the season, when they were led by assistant coach Luke Walton.

The Warriors finished 73–9 and now hold the record for the most wins in a single season, breaking the 1995–96 Bulls’ mark of 72 wins.

Golden State is 140–24 since Kerr took over before the 2014–15 season, and is the reigning NBA champion.
