Report: Pacers haven’t discussed renewing Frank Vogel’s expiring deal

The Pacers haven’t discussed a contract extension for head coach Frank Vogel, The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Vogel, 42, just finished the final season of a two-year extension he signed in Oct. 2014. The Pacers were eliminated by the Raptors on Sunday night in Game 7 of their opening-round playoff series.
Immediately after the game, Pacers president Larry Bird wouldn’t comment on Vogel’s standing with the team, but he told the Indianapolis Star on Monday that he was unsure what the future held for Vogel.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Bird said. “Frank’s a great guy. He’s going to be fine no matter what happens. If he’s back, he’ll be fine here. If he’s not, he’s not. We’ll see.”
Bird told the Star the decision on Vogel would be made after he speaks with Pacers owner Herb Simon, but a meeting has not yet been arranged.
Vogel took over as head coach of the Pacers in Jan. 2011, and has led the team to a 250–181 record in six seasons. After reaching the Eastern Conference finals in two straight years, Indiana missed the playoffs in 2014–15 and was eliminated in the first round this season.
Wojnarowski reports there is strong interest in Vogel should he hit the market. The Knicks and Kings are the two teams that still need to hire a coach.
