Knicks president Phil Jackson and general manager Steve Mills met face-to-face with Frank Vogel about the team’s open coaching position, the New York Daily Newsreports.

Vogel, 42, was fired by the Pacers after five seasons as head coach.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, who later confirmed the Daily News report, the idea that the Knicks will hire Kurt Rambis, who took over as the team’s interim coach last season after the firing of Derek Fisher, “shouldn’t be viewed as a forgone conclusion.”

Vogel, who took over in Indiana on an interim basis in 2010–11, went 250–181 during his time as coach.

The Knicks have not been to the postseason in three seasons.
