Bucks employee leaks players’ finances due to email scam

Milwaukee Bucks players had their financial documents accidentally leaked due to a team employee falling victim to an email scam, the Bucks announced in a statement Thursday.
The Vertical’s Shams Charania first reported the news.
The employee released players’ 2015 IRS W-2 documents to an emailer impersonating team president Peter Feigin. The documents contain information such as the players’ addresses, Social Security numbers and compensation.
The documents were requested on April 26, and the Bucks did not discover the hack until May 16, according to the report. The Bucks have notified the FBI and IRS about the incident, and have involved both the NBA and NBPA to investigate the scam.
“The communication received on this major security breach is unacceptable,” an agent with a client on the Bucks told The Vertical. “The players need to know the exact measures being taken by the Bucks and the FBI to ensure each and every player's identity and financial information will not be compromised. There needs to be accountability for such a mistake, details on the steps taken to rectify it and a process put in place to make sure this never happens again.”

The Bucks have offered players free credit monitoring for three years and non-expiring identity-theft restoration services as a result of the leak.
