The third quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals came to a halt after Cavs guard Matthew Dellavedova took a swipe at Warriors forward Andre Iguodala that caught him in the crotch.

Dellavedova reached out but got no part of the basketball, whacking Iguodala down under and sparking a scuffle. After review, the play was ruled a common foul and not a flagrant. The Aussie guard has developed a reputation for his hard play and occasionally questionable physicality, and Golden State did not respond in kind.

After leading 74–68 after three, the Warriors pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 104–89 Game 1 win.

Iguodala played down the incident after the game.

“I respect a lot of guys’ hustles in this league. You’ve got guys who got to get a little dirty, got to get a little physical to make a life and feed their families,” Iguodala said. “I only respect that. For me, it’s just keeping my composure.”
