Report: Chauncey Billups rejects assistant coach job from Magic

Former Pistons guard Chauncey Billups reportedly turned down a coaching offer from the Orlando Magic.

Former Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups turned down an offer to become an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic, reports The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Billups would have become Frank Vogel’s top assistant, according to the report. Orlando was also prepared to make Billups one of the league’s highest-paid assistants.

Billups, currently an analyst for ESPN, reportedly gave the offer serious consideration before turning it down.

The 2004 Finals MVP, Billups spent 17 seasons in the NBA. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics before playing for the Raptors, Nuggets, Pistons, Timberwolves, Knicks and Clippers. Billups was the leader of the 2004 Detroit team that upset the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.

The Magic hired Vogel in May.
