USA Basketball assistant coach Monty Williams will join the San Antonio Spurs staff next season, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The role is still being determined.

Last month, Williams announced that he would not return to the Oklahoma City Thunder after his first season with the team. He took a leave of absence after his wife, Ingrid, died in a February car accident at the age of 44.

Williams was also a former head coach with the Pelicans and reached the playoffs in two of his five seasons with the team.

The Spurs already have five assistants in James Borrego, Chip Engelland, Becky Hammon, Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka working under head coach Gregg Popovich.

The United States defeated Venezuela 80–45 on Friday night as Williams prepares to head to Rio de Janeiro to work with coach Mike Krzyzewski.
