Former Orlando Magic guard Keith Appling was arrested on Sunday after attempting to flee from police as authorities attempted to question him about a traffic violation.

It's Appling's third arrest this year.

According to a statement from the Detroit Police Department, obtained by the Detroit News, Appling was pulled over in his vehicle on Sunday night and the approaching officer allegedly noticed “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle and asked for Appling's driver’s license.

The officer attempted to reach inside to obtain the license, but Appling rolled up the window and drove off, according to the report.

After Appling was taken into custody, officers found a bag that he had ditched on the side of the road, which contained a weapon with live ammunition inside. Appling was booked for fleeing and eluding and for carrying a concealed weapon, but marijuana was never found.

In June, Appling was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle. In May, Appling was also arrested on gun charges, after cops allegedly found a loaded AK-47 in the trunk of his car.

Appling, 24, starred at Michigan State and went undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft. He signed two 10-day contracts with the Magic last season, appearing in five games and averaging 1.2 points per game.
