When Is the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline?

The NBA trade deadline is a bit earlier than normal this season.

This season, the trade deadline is a bit earlier than normal for the NBA.

Teams will have to until 3 p.m. ET on Feb. 7 this year to get trades into the league office. Paperwork needs to be filed to the league office before 3 p.m. ET so that trades can be considered valid. News of trades can still trickle out after 3 p.m.

This puts the deadline about a week before the All-Star Break, instead of after like it has been in the past.

The playoff eligibility waiver deadline is on March 1. So players who aren't traded by Feb. 7 could still end up on new playoff teams if released prior to this. However, unlike the MLB, NBA teams are unable to trade players after the deadline.

The market is already active with trades occurring between crucial players. The Pelicans' Anthony Davis publically requested a trade through his agent, but whether it will be done before the deadline remains to be seen. Then, the Knicks Kristaps Porzingis was involved in a multi-player deal with the Mavericks. Porzingis is headed to Dallas along with Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke and Courtney Lee, while Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews are headed to New York.

Other names being discussed as trade candidates include Enes Kanter of the Knicks and Jabari Parker of the Chicago Bulls.
