The Pelicans will be without Zion Williamson in this season-opening game, putting a damper on some of the excitement surrounding the event. While the team hopes that Williamson can recover from injury quickly, it still has plenty of young talent to look forward to watching this season. Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram were acquired in a trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers during the offseason. They join veterans like Jrue Holiday and JJ Redick to form a core that could compete for the playoffs right away.

Toronto's inclusion in the season-opening doubleheader is about one thing: celebrating last year's NBA championship. Last year's Raptors ran through the Sixers, Bucks and Warriors to earn their first title, but things may be more difficult for them this season with the loss of Kawhi Leonard. The key to the season for Toronto will be if players like Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam can fill the void left by Leonard, as Nick Nurse's squad looks to compete in a wide-open Eastern Conference.

The Lakers picked up reinforcements for LeBron James this offseason. They did so by trading away Ball and Ingram, among others, to get Davis. There isn't much that Davis can't do on the court, and his ability to protect the rim and score from anywhere should make the Lakers a much more dangerous team than they were last season.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, they may be overshadowed this year by the team they share an arena with. The Clippers brought in two stars in Leonard and Paul George to bolster their roster. Two elite perimeter defenders and scorers, Leonard and George have made the Clippers the preseason favorites to win it all. They will have their first chance to prove themselves at home against the Lakers on opening night in what could be a preview of the Western Conference Finals.
