Giannis Antetokounmpo to Undergo Tests on Wrist Injury After All-Star Game

Giannis Antetokounmpo will reportedly undergo further testing in New York on Monday on a wrist injury he suffered prior to the All-Star break, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

Antetokounmpo notably sported a wrap on his right wrist during Sunday’s All-Star Game in Utah, and scored one basket before exiting his team’s eventual 184–175 win. The seven-time All-Star and three-time captain entered All-Star Weekend with questions surrounding his health after suffering a right wrist sprain in the Bucks’ 112–100 win over the Bulls on Feb. 16, the team’s last game before the break. 

Antetokounmpo, who also withdrew from the skills challenge due to the injury, sustained the sprain after his wrist landed awkwardly on the backboard stanchion following an attempt at a chasedown block. The 28-year-old was later ruled for the rest of the contest after playing only nine minutes.

While it remains to be seen if Antetokounmpo will miss time, the Bucks and their fans will surely wait anxiously for the next updates regarding the two-time MVP’s condition. In his 47 starts this season, Antetokounmpo has averaged a career-high 31.8 points, along with 12.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Heading into the break, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks (41–17) were in the midst of a 12-game win streak and sat only 0.5 games behind the Celtics (42–17) for first place in the East. Milwaukee will return to action on Feb. 24 in a home game against the Heat before hosting the Suns on Feb. 26 and heading to Brooklyn to face the Nets two nights later.
