Grizzlies’ Ja Morant to Miss Four Additional Games

The Grizzlies said on Wednesday that Ja Morant will remain away from the team for at least four more games.

This means the earliest the two-time All-Star will return to the team is on March 17 against the Spurs.

Morant missed Memphis’s last two games after he appeared to brandish a firearm at a Glendale, Colo., nightclub in an Instagram Live video posted on Saturday morning. Originally, the Grizzlies said he would miss at least two games before they would reevaluate the situation.

The incident led to an investigation by Colorado police, and on Wednesday, the investigation closed after they didn’t charge him due to a lack of evidence. The police were looking to see if Morant broke any laws regarding him being under the influence of alcohol while carrying a firearm.

The NBA is still investigating the incident.

Morant has since released an apology, stating that he was going to “take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

The investigation into Morant also comes after The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the point guard allegedly punched a 17-year-old and then flashed a gun at him during a pickup basketball game last summer.

The Grizzlies currently sit at third in the Western Conference at 38–26. Memphis lost its two games without Morant this past week.
