Draymond Green Reveals How He’ll Guard Victor Wembanyama

Warriors forward Draymond Green had plenty to say during a recent appearance on Clippers star Paul George’s podcast, Podcast P.

Among the multitude of topics covered, Green and George dove into 2023 No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama and how his game will translate to the NBA.

Green explained on the podcast how he intends to match up against the Spurs’ near 7’4” rookie, indicating that he doesn’t intend to lose the physical battle against Wembanyama.

“You’re not just dribbling through me like the Harlem Globetrotters. I’m sorry,” said Green. “You can’t let him get comfortable. You let him get comfortable you lose, because you can’t block his shot. He may not even see your contest. So with a guy like that you gotta do your work early. I‘m crowding him from the time he starts running down the court. When they get the rebound and they start coming I’m crowding because I can’t let him get to a space where he’s comfortable.”

Green is well aware that the height matchup isn’t a favorable one for him. Standing at 6’6”, Wembanyama is nearly 10 inches taller than the 33-year-old. Because of that, Green explained that removing the rookie from his comfort zone would be key.

Wembanyama hasn’t made a single regular-season appearance yet, but already some of the NBA’s top defenders are cooking up strategies to try and slow him down.
