Blazers’ Scoot Henderson Makes Brash Guarantee Ahead of 2023-24 Season

Entering the 2023-24 season, Scoot Henderson is one of the most hyped rookies in the NBA. The Trail Blazers selected the guard with the No. 3 pick in the draft out of the G League, and Henderson is expected to hit the ground running in Portland.

Henderson is one of many intriguing rookies this year, but the 19-year-old believes he has a chance to be the best of the bunch. In an interview with Playmaker, Henderson made a bold prediction for next season.

“I will win Rookie of the Year,” he said.

In the interview, Henderson explains that he approaches his goals with the idea that they already have happened, as he believes it puts him in a better place on the court.

“That’s just a mindset of manifestation that I kind of grew,” he said. “Making sure I’m telling myself I’mma have a great rookie season, you know? I’m not saying I want to have a great rookie season. I’mma have a great rookie season.”

For Henderson to win Rookie of the Year, he will have to beat out a generational prospect in Victor Wembanyama, along with the No. 2 pick in the draft, Bradnon Miller. Additionally, Chet Holmgren, who was selected No. 2 in the 2022 draft, is eligible for the award because he missed all of last season due to injury.

As a member of the G League Ignite team last season, Henderson averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 19 games.
