Kawhi Leonard, Clippers Agree to Contract Extension
The Los Angeles Clippers signed star forward Kawhi Leonard to a contract extension, the team announced Wednesday. It’s a three-year extension worth $152.4 million in fully guaranteed money, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
“We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Kawhi,” Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence said in a release. “He is an elite player, a terrific partner and a relentless worker who knows how to win and makes it his first priority. He elevated our franchise from the moment he arrived. We feel fortunate that Kawhi chose to join the Clippers five years ago, and excited to keep building with him.”
Leonard signed with his hometown Los Angeles squad back in 2019—the same day Paul George signed with the franchise. The two were supposed to be one of the most formidable duos in the NBA but injuries have plagued both of them ever since stepping foot inside the Clippers’ facility.

Both players have been able to stay healthy so far this season, though, leading the team to a 23–13 record. The Clippers’ extension talks with George are ongoing with the organization wanting to get both stars lined up on longer-term contracts, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
