Kings’ Mike Brown Says $50,000 Fine Cost His Family a Lake Tahoe Vacation

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown was fined $50,000 following an outburst that led to his ejection during the game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night.

As a result of the fine, Brown told reporters on Tuesday that he is canceling his family trip to Lake Tahoe. The coach joked that his family’s skiing trip wouldn’t be able to go on unless the Ritz-Carlton was willing to give him a discount.

“The fine is what it is. My partner, she’s upset with me because I was gonna splurge and take them skiing,” said Brown. “We were gonna stay at the Ritz-Carlton on the north side of Lake Tahoe, and we were gonna splurge a little bit for All-Star break, I was gonna take my grandson skiing. But I called her and told her we probably won’t be able to do it today unless the Ritz-Carlton, which is a terrific place, gives me a discount.”

The NBA announced Brown’s $50,000 fine on Tuesday, disciplining the Kings’ coach for “aggressively pursuing a game official during live play, and for publicly criticizing a game official.”

Brown was irate with officials late into the game against the Bucks, and needed to be held back by Malik Monk in reaction to a call during the fourth quarter, leading to his ejection.

During his postgame comments on Sunday, Brown was critical of the game’s officiating, and brought out his laptop in order to analyze plays with reporters in dispute of the ejection, which ultimately played a role in him getting hit with such a significant fine.
