Stephen Curry, Sabrina Ionescu to Compete in Three-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend

Two of basketball’s most prolific sharpshooters will square off in a three-point shooting contest during the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend.

Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu will reportedly go head-to-head at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis during February’s All-Star weekend, according to NBA insider Shams Charania

Curry, of course, is the greatest three-point shooter in NBA history, and the winner of two Three-Point Contests, tied for the second most all-time. His most recent win came during the 2020–21 season in what was his seventh appearance in the event.

As for Ionescu, she made basketball history when she knocked down the most three-pointers among NBA or WNBA players in a single round of the competition’s history, dropping 37 points in the final round of the Starry Three-Point Contest. In that iconic showing, Ionescu missed her first attempt of the contest before making the next 16 shots, in what was a legendary performance from beyond the arc.

Curry hinted at the possibility of a matchup against Ionescu during warmups ahead of Thursday’s game against the Sacramento Kings. Speaking to teammate Brandon Podziemski, Curry asked the Warriors’ rookie if he knew who the all-time three-point contest record holder was.

When Podziemski named Ionescu, Curry responded by saying, “We got to settle this once and for all. I think I got to challenge her. It’d be lit.”

It seems that challenge is expected to be made official, as the two renowned perimeter scorers will face off in a decisive three-point shooting contest, in what figures to be a must-watch event at All-Star weekend.
