Hawks’ Trae Young Brushes Off NBA’s $35K Fine With Epic Response

The NBA announced Wednesday that Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is being fined $35,000 for “directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official.” Young appeared to respond to the announcement with a shady post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Hope it’s to a great cause,” Young said.

The incident in question occurred on Monday when Young’s Hawks were facing off against the Chicago Bulls. With 3:58 left in the fourth quarter, the three-time All Star appeared to make a “money” gesture after he was assessed a technical foul by the officiating crew. His team would go on to lose the game 136–126 and he finished with 19 points on 3-for-14 shooting from the field. He also tallied 14 assists in the losing effort.

Young, 25, was named an All Star recently for the third time in his five years in the NBA. He’s currently averaging 27.0 points, 10.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds for the Hawks (24–30).
