Stephen Curry Reacts to Warriors’ Reported Interest in LeBron James

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry offered his two cents on the recent LeBron James trade report that made rounds on the internet this past week.

In the report published Wednesday by ESPN, the Warriors inquired about a potential deal package for the Lakers star ahead of the NBA trade deadline last Thursday. Then, after Golden State’s 130—125 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, a reporter carefully probed Curry for his thoughts on the matter.

When asked whether he was surprised about reports and rumors involving trades for big-name players, Curry said, “No, never surprised.”

However, later in the press conference, the four-time NBA champion added, “Obviously, a guy like Bron, you would probably call just to see. I don’t know what the depths of the conversations were, but it was a nice little surprise this morning for sure.”

It’s unclear whether Curry played any part in the Warriors’ interest, but his teammate, Draymond Green, reportedly did. Green, who famously helped recruit Kevin Durant years ago, reportedly encouraged Warriors ownership to pursue James. Both the Lakers and James ultimately closed the door on a possible blockbuster trade.

Fans could still see Curry and James share a court together for the 2024 Olympics, as both players could be selected to represent Team USA in Paris this summer.

For now, the two longstanding rivals who graced television screens for four consecutive NBA Finals will continue to lock horns in the Western Conference, where James’s Lakers (30–26) sit in ninth place, one spot ahead of the Warriors (26–26), in play-in tournament territory.
