NBA Fans Were Baffled Over Pistons’ Game-Ending Meltdown in Loss to Knicks

The Detroit Pistons can’t seem to catch a break, and the chaotic sequence that led to loss No. 49 of the season on Monday night was enough to set the internet ablaze.

Leading the New York Knicks 111–110 with just over 22 seconds remaining, Detroit needed to get a stop to pull off an impressive road victory.

While the Pistons defense held fast on the Knicks’ initial possession, the play devolved into a mess of scrambles and turnovers, and the ball, as it has all season, refused to bounce Detroit’s way.

The final 22 seconds provided plenty of drama, and resulted in New York pulling off a stunning victory thanks to, eventually, a made shot from Josh Hart.

You have to see it to believe it.

The immediate reaction from NBA fans was to laugh at the immense chaos over such a short span.

Then came questions about the mid-court hit on Pistons forward Ausar Thompson, that might be considered nearly perfect form if it occurred on an NFL field rather than an NBA court.

Pistons head coach Monty Williams had some choice words about the officiating after the game.

“The absolute worst call of the season,” Williams told reporters. “No call. Enough's enough.”

In the end, all Williams is likely to get for his words is a hefty fine from the NBA as his team fell to 8-49 on the season.

It’s been that kind of year for the Pistons.
