76ers’ Tyrese Maxey Ruled Out for Matchup vs Nets

Sixers All-Star ruled out for concussion like symptoms.

On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers are slated to take on the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. Already without the services of Joel Embiid, recent developments have emerged regarding the team's other star.

After traveling with the team to Brooklyn, Tyrese Maxey has now been ruled out against the Nets. He has made the trip back to Philly, where he will go through test after experiencing concussion-like symptoms.

This injury stems from a play that happened over the weekend against the Dallas Mavericks. While going for a step-back jumper, Maxey slipped on the foot of Derrick Jones Jr. On the way down, his head collided with the knee of the Mavs forward. Maxey would end up returning in the game, but it is clear he is still dealing with issues from the play.

Maxey has done a exceptional job for the Sixers stepping up in the absence of Joel Embiid. Now, the team must figure out a way to stay in the win column without both their stars. One thing they have going for them is they are taking on a Nets team that has dropped six of their last nine matchups.

Along with Embiid and Maxey, De'Anthony Melton and Robert Covington have also been ruled out. Backup guard Cameron Payne is also on the injury report as he is questionable with an illness.

Since Maxey has been ruled out, Nick Nurse will have to make some changes to his starting lineup Tuesday. The top candidate to start at point guard is Kyle Lowry. He'll be tasked with running the offense and sharing backcourt duties with fellow new addition Buddy Hield.
