As the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat battled it out on Wednesday night in South Philly, the home team had a bit of an injury scare.

Sixers’ starting guard, Tyrese Maxey, showed signs of clearly being in pain. As a result, he went back to the locker room to get his ankle checked out.

The Sixers held their breath, but it wouldn’t be for long. Shortly after Maxey exited the game, the young guard was back on the bench, stretching out and preparing to re-enter the game. Eventually, the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center breathed a sigh of relief once they saw the All-Star trot back out onto the floor.

After the game, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse explained what led to Maxey’s temporary departure.

“He twisted his ankle,” the head coach told reporters after the game. “He went and got it re-taped and came back.”

Lately, Maxey has been dealing with ankle soreness. Since late January, he’s missed four games as a result. While he’s been available and on the floor for the Sixers more often than not, it’s clear Maxey is battling through a minor setback. Therefore, he looks forward to the upcoming break.

“I’m alright,” the guard said while discussing Wednesday’s trip to the locker room. “It happens, part of it, we move. Got some time off, so it should be great.”

After Wednesday’s tight loss against the Heat, Maxey and the Sixers will get the next week off before they host the New York Knicks for the second time this season. Considering the Sixers have been down a handful of players, including four starters, they hope the next week can get them back on a healthier path when they fire up the final stretch.
