Like many followers of the Pat Bev Podcast on Twitter, NBA veteran Patrick Beverley was shocked to see that his time with the Philadelphia 76ers was ending prematurely.

After signing with the Sixers over the 2023 offseason, Beverley played a prominent role off the bench for the Sixers in 47 games. Considering all of the praise Beverley received from his teammates for his contributions on and off the court, his departure was shocking.

As the trade deadline winded down, Beverley was moved to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for the veteran guard Cameron Payne and a second-round pick.

As always, Beverley went public with his reaction and opinion on the move. Although he was in good spirits, looking forward to his next opportunity, he was shocked, claiming that he was told there wasn’t a trade on the horizon when he asked 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey.

This week, Morey addressed Beverley’s comments, confirming what he told the veteran guard. Sure, there was no plan to trade Beverley at that point.

But in the NBA, things change quickly.

So, is there bad blood?

Morey assumed not.

“I think my relationship with players and player agents and people in the league is as high as any in the league,” Morey noted. “I think Pat and I got a great relationship. He clarified what he said after he said it. I think if I was up here with Pat, it would be a very positive conversation.”

For what it’s worth, Beverley didn’t harp on Morey’s decision for long. And while his podcast co-host expressed disappointment in Morey specifically, Beverley didn’t want to slander his former President of Basketball Ops.

As for Morey, he stood on his decision whether the public liked it or not.

“For sure there was no plans [to trade him] at that point. It wasn’t even like on the radar,” Morey added. “But we thought this was the best way to build a team. We saw his minutes going down, and we thought it was best for him to be at a place where he was going to play a bigger role on the team. Here, we saw that role diminishing.”

Beverley quickly settled in with the Bucks, making his debut the day after the deadline. Meanwhile, the Sixers rolled out Payne for their next two games, letting him get his feet wet with the team as the Sixers look to stay on track following a major injury hit.

It’s unfortunate a key veteran and fan-favorite in Beverley couldn’t finish what he started this season in Philadelphia, but it seems the Sixers part ways with the situation on good terms, despite the initial reaction.
