The Detroit Pistons are making a change at the head coach position. Following the team’s finale on Sunday, Dwane Casey announced that he was making a move. While Casey won’t leave the organization, he will free up the head coach position and join the front office.

So far, only a few candidates have been revealed as potential replacements. None of the names mentioned came from the Philadelphia 76ers’ staff.

Considering one of Doc Rivers’ top assistants, Sam Cassell, has garnered head coaching interest around the NBA in the past, he could become a candidate in Detroit as the search expands.

BetOnline recently revealed the odds for the Pistons’ next head coach as of April 11, 2023. Cassell is the only Sixers assistant with odds to potentially leave for the Pistons job so far, with the odds set at 11/1.

Currently, Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee has the best odds at 3/1. Being an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018, this isn’t Lee’s first rodeo in the coaching carasouel.

Beyond Lee is Kenny Atkinson (4/1), Jerry Stackhouse (5/1), Ime Udoka (6/1), Jay Wright (7/1), Rex Kalamian (8/1), Scott Brooks (9/1), Frank Vogel (10/1), Ryan Bowen (10/1), then comes Cassell.

There are also several names listed beyond Cassell, including Stephen Silas, Greg Buckner, Adrian Griffin, Jerome Allen, Chris Quinn, Kevin Ollie, Sean Sweeney, and Becky Hammon.

So far, only Lee and Udoka have been mentioned as candidates for the job. As the NBA Playoffs are around the corner, the Pistons might take a few weeks before they hammer down on the hiring process, as some of their top prospects might want to focus on navigating playoff runs at this time.
