The Orlando Magic are going to cut Terrence Ross loose. While Orlando is on the right path to becoming playoff contenders, they are not quite there yet this season. Therefore, the Magic will allow the 32-year-old veteran to sign somewhere else so he can compete for a title.

Daryl Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers have plans to get active in the buyout market. Under the tax line, and with a roster spot available, the Sixers could use a backup center or a two-way wing to add to their roster ahead of their eventual playoff run.

Ross was a prospect to watch for the Sixers, but it seems the soon-to-be former Magic veteran has his sights set on the Western Conference. When the news broke that Ross was on his way to hitting the free agency market, the Dallas Mavericks were the favorites to land him.

However, Ross reportedly re-routed his path. Now, his eyes are set on the Phoenix Suns.

Here’s the latest on Ross’s plans, according to a report from ESPN:

After Suns owner Mat Ishbia and coach Monty Williams joined the pursuit on Saturday, veteran guard Terrence Ross plans to sign with Phoenix upon finalizing a contract buyout, sources told ESPN.

The Dallas Mavericks had emerged as a frontrunner earlier Saturday, but the Suns made the case to Ross on the opportunity to join Devin Booker and Kevin Durant to bolster the Suns' depleted wing depth on what figures to be a deep playoff run.”

The Suns were falling out of favor when it came to being title contenders in the West, but a blockbuster move to acquire Kevin Durant ahead of Thursday’s deadline instantly boosted their title odds for this year.

The fact that Ross already had a change of plans means nothing is final until he signs the dotted line in Phoenix. For the time being, it seems there is one less wing on the open market.
