Sixers News: Delaware Blue Coats Name Former NBA Veteran as New GM

In this story:
The Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, has named a new General Manager, the team announced on Friday.
Former NBA veteran Jameer Nelson has been named the Blue Coats newest General Manager, replacing Prosper Karangwa.
Nelson previously assisted Karangwa in the Blue Coats’ front office and also served as a scout for the 76ers. Now, he’ll oversee the G League squad’s basketball operations.
Meanwhile, Karangwa will move into a more “prominent role” with the 76ers’ front office, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski’s report.
Nelson takes over the Blue Coats’ front office right before they look to defend their NBA G League title. After winning the championship for the first time in the organization’s history, the Sixers’ affiliate has high hopes of finding similar success under a revamped staff.
Karangwa isn’t the only member of the Blue Coats to find himself taking on a different role after a successful year. Former Blue Coats head coach Coby Karl was elevated to the Sixers’ organization, joining Nick Nurse’s staff ahead of the 2023-2024 NBA season. Karl will be replaced by longtime assistant Mike Longabardi.
As for Nelson, he continues growing in his role off the court. After spending 14 seasons playing in the NBA, competing for the Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, and Detroit Pistons, Nelson found himself transitioning to the front office game after joining the Blue Coats in 2020. Now, he’s taking the next step with a promotion, following a similar path as former Sixers veteran forward Elton Brand.
