Anthony Davis injured his left hand last week and now it sounds like the Mavericks star could potentially miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season because of it.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that Davis could undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his injured hand. The recovery time would be a few months and with the regular season ending in April, there’s a good chance Davis will be out for the rest of the season.

The one upside is that if Dallas makes the playoffs, Davis could possibly return in time to play in the postseason.

However, Dallas remains in trade discussions regarding Davis, which could be halted because of his prognosis. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5, and if a team does decide to trade for the Mavericks star it would be for a long-term solution, not a short-term one as he would be out for the foreseeable future.

Regardless, Davis will likely be out of Dallas sometime this year, whether that’s before the deadline or in the offseason. The two teams that have shown the most interest in acquiring Davis are the Hawks and Raptors.

Despite the injury, Davis is a name to watch out for in the coming months.
