Growing up in Greece, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo did not get the chance to try snacks and treats that Americans often binge on. This includes the legendary Oreo cookies, which Giannis didn't get to even try because of his family's financial situation. He finally had them when he arrived in the United States and hasn't stopped eating them ever since. This interesting story has inspired Nike to pattern a colorway for his latest signature sneaker—the Zoom Freak 5—after the beloved sandwich cookie.

Latest sneaker

Giannis's signature sneaker line is going on its fifth iteration. According to Jared Ebanks of Sneakernews, the Zoom Freak 5 will have an Oreo-inspired colorway that will mimic the unmistakable appearance of the famed cookie.

"For the next colorway of his Nike Zoom Freak 5, the two-time League MVP's obsession with Oreos is now represented with its own greyscale ensemble. The silhouette's textured knit upper, midsole and heel tab all engage in mimicking the cookie's fluffy white center while the jet-black leather overlays and tongue construction enact an opposing pitch-dark tint," Ebanks wrote.

The Oreo story

Giannis' very first Oreo experience happened when he arrived in the United States. A man with a thirst for the simple things in life, Giannis decided he'd rather spend money on Oreos than fancy cars and jewelry.

"When I came to the league, that was the first thing that I ate because when I was younger I was always craving them but could never afford them. So I was like, I'm gonna get a little bit of money. People spend money on cars and chains, I'm gonna buy Oreos. So I ate them for like a month straight. No dinner, no lunch, no nothing. So I got sick of them, right? But I've had them," Giannis said back in 2021.
