The Chicago Bulls appear to have found the guard they’ve been yearning for in Jevon Carter, ever since they lost starting point guard Lonzo Ball to a knee injury in January 2022. Carter is coming off a stellar season for the Bucks, but it remains to be seen what he can do with a full-time starting gig. That said, could the Bulls be better off trading for a guard with a more proven track record?

Tyus Jones could be the answer

In a mock trade proposed by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Bulls would send away two of their developmental pieces—forward Patrick Williams and guard Dalen Terry—for a package of Tyus Jones and Corey Kispert. This trade could work well for the Bulls as it would land them a court general in Jones, who has started in more games (94) than Carter (48) has in his career.

In addition, Jones has already proven himself to be a reliable playmaker capable of leading a team when he started in place of Ja Morant during the times when the latter got injured or suspended. Jones was recently traded to Washington where he could waste away his prime years playing for a rebuilding squad.

“Jones averaged 16.4 points, 4 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.8 steals in his 22 starts with the Grizzlies last season, all while putting up efficient 50.0/41.5/77.8 percent shooting splits,” Swartz wrote.

Meanwhile, Kispert would supplement the Bulls’ floor spacing. One of the best in the league in three-point accuracy last season at 42.4 percent, he would give the Bulls much-needed outside shooting.

Could make some noise

These potential changes could transform the Bulls into a formidable squad capable not just of reaching the Playoffs, but also making some noise once there.

“A starting lineup with Jones, Zach LaVine, Kispert, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vuceviccould make some noise in the East, especially with Alex Caruso, Andre Drummond, Torrey Craig, Coby White and Carter off the bench,” Swartz added.
