Pat Beverley may be taking it easy at home after the Chicago Bulls failed to get into the NBA Playoffs. However, the veteran guard caused a bit of a stir on his podcast by saying that if the Los Angeles Lakers go all the way and win the NBA championship, he wants to be given a ring.

Beverley and Russ want rings

Speaking on his podcast, the Arkansas product narrated that he bumped into his former Laker teammate, Russell Westbrook, at the gym and the former league MVP asserted that he wants a ring if the Lakers win the NBA title. Beverly co-signed on the idea and declared that he also wants one.

Beverley played 45 games for the Lakers this season and averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He was then traded to the Orlando Magic but never played a game there, agreeing to a buyout before signing to play for the Chicago Bulls. On the other hand, Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz but also did not play there. The triple-double monster got bought out and signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Mixed reactions

The Lakers, though, took off after the trade deadline with the new players they received from the deals involving Beverley and Westbrook. Popular NBA commentator Stephen A. Smith vehemently argued against giving the two former Lakers rings, if the Lakers win it all.

"The reality is that the Lakers are better without you than they were with you," said Smith. "When the trading deadline arrived, the Los Angeles Lakers were six games under .500, losers of three straight and a 13th seed in the Western Conference."

However, with new players such as D'Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, and Rui Hachimura, the Lakers got back on track and made it into the NBA Playoffs, where they are now tied with the reigning champions Golden State Warriors, 1-1, in the Western Conference semifinals.
