The Lonzo Ball injury saga took another turn on Thursday as NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Ball is considering a third surgery on his nagging knee injury. Although a decision has yet to be made regarding the matter, if Ball decides to take this route, the surgery would be his third while with the Chicago Bulls and the fourth of his NBA career. Furthermore, it would mean another six months of recovery and intense rehab as the dynamic guard tries to revive his stalled career.

Puzzling injury

Although details about this upcoming surgery have not been made available, Ball, his team, and the Bulls are at wit’s end trying to find solutions for the puzzling injury. After having already undergone a pair of surgeries to remedy a torn MCL he suffered back in January 2022, Ball’s discomfort did not go away, keeping him from taking the necessary steps to progress in the rehab process.

Absence felt

With Ball on the Bulls’ roster for 35 games last season, the team went 22-13 and was considered one of the legit contenders in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, providing the team with a unique mix of being a floor general, three-point shooter, and superb defender.

His presence this season has been missed, as the team has gone 30-36, just shy of 10th place which leads to the Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference. Although young guard Ayo Dosunmu took on the point guard duties for most of the season before Patrick Beverley came on board not long after the trade deadline, none of them could fully replicate Ball’s all-around skills.
