Report: Spurs' Gay to return after All-Star break

San Antonio Spurs small forward Rudy Gay has been sidelined the last 15 games because of retrocalcaneal bursitis in his right heel and is likely to remain out

San Antonio Spurs small forward Rudy Gay has been sidelined the last 15 games because of retrocalcaneal bursitis in his right heel and is likely to remain out of action until after the All-Star break, according to a report from MySanAntonio.com.

Gay last played on Dec. 28. The veteran swingman began to feel soreness in his right heel and an MRI confirmed there was inflammation.

As they do with all their players, the Spurs are being cautious with Gay, who underwent surgery on his left Achilles' tendon last year.

Per Jabari Young of MySanAntonio:

"League sources tell the Express-News Gay is expected to return to the lineup after the All-Star break as he continues to recover from right heel bursitis he suffered last month. According to sources, Gay was aiming to return next week, possibly against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. After consulting with doctors, a mutual decision was made to allow Gay more time to heal."

In 34 games this season, Gay is averaging 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting an efficient 47.6 percent from the field.

The Spurs, who are still without star Kawhi Leonard, enter Saturday with a record of 32-19.
