Donovan Mitchell Breaks Cavaliers Franchise Record

Donovan Mitchell breaks the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise record for more three-pointers made in a single season.

I remember Donovan Mitchell being a pretty good shooter when he was with the Utah Jazz for the first five seasons of his NBA career. However, I was not expecting him to be this good with the Cleveland Cavaliers!

Mitchell is shooting a career-high 38 percent from behind the arc while also averaging 27.6 points per game which is also the most in his career. He's known for his ability to drive in the paint and create his own shot, but that doesn't mean he can't knock it down from long range.

This incredible coverage from the floor has cemented his name in Cavs' history.

In the third quarter of the Cavs' game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, Mitchell hit his first three of the game. This one had a little more significance behind it though.

It was the 205th three-pointer Spida has made this year which is not the most amount of threes hit in a single season by members of the Cavaliers. The list now looks like this:

  1. Donovan Mitchell 2022-23 - 205
  2. J.R. Smith 2015-16 - 204
  3. Wesley Person 1997-98 - 192
  4. Kevin Love 2021 - 22 - 187
  5. Mo Williams 2008-09 - 183
  6. Kyrie Irving 2016-17 - 177

It's pretty wild that Mitchell has already reached this record and it's still just the beginning of March. The Cavs still have 14 more games to play this season so this record is sure to be extended by the time the regular season is over.

Mitchell was traded to the Cavaliers over the offseason and he's already making an impact on the floor and in the history books.
