Cavs trade Kyrie to Celtics for Thomas, others

The Kyrie Irving trade drama is finally over.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded the disgruntled point guard to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, young center Ante Zizic and a first round pick, league sources tell Amico Hoops.

The Cavs made a strong push for Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum, but Boston never budged and countered with Crowder, sources tell Amico Hoops.
Irving gets his wish of escaping the shadow of LeBron James and he and Gordon Hayward will look to upset The King in the Eastern Conference.
Boston's defense, though, has taken a big hit with the additions of Irving and Hayward.
The Celtics had to trade their best perimeter defender, Avery Bradley, to the Detroit Pistons to clear cap space for Hayward and now they lose Crowder, a sound two-way player and rugged defender.
Cleveland, meanwhile, acquires Thomas, who averaged 28.9 points per game last season. His physical with the Cavs is going to be huge, as he suffered a hip injury in the playoffs and there was talk that he would need offseason surgery.
The Cavs and Celtics will meet on opening night in the 2017-18 season. Expect the Quicken Loans Arena to be booming that night.
