The NBA has fined the Los Angeles Lakers $500,000 for violating the league's anti-tampering rules.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka communicated with Paul George's agent during the offseason, according to the league.

"The Lakers' crime in this tampering case that costs them $500k, I'm told, is GM Rob Pelinka having communication with Paul George's agent," USA Today reported.

While still with the Indiana Pacers, George had expressed an interest in joining the Lakers after the season. He has since been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he will team with reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook.
