Cavaliers’ Offense Has New Look Ahead Of 2023-24 Season Opener

In this story:
Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers concluded their 2023 preseason with a 109-104 defeat to the Indiana Pacers.
With four tune-up games completed, Cleveland had a chance to see their changed roster face off against opposing competition.
The result so far? A different-looking offense compared to last season.
In a recent interview on 92.3 The Fan’s show Overtime with Jonathan Peterlin, Chris Manning of Fear The Sword expressed the contrast between last season’s Cavaliers offense and the one seen this preseason.
One difference Manning discussed is a faster pace.
“I think the way they’ve played on offense has been much more purposeful. I think the way they’re getting across half-court at like 18 seconds [remaining in the shot clock] and initiating the offense then, instead of [Darius] Garland and [Donovan] Mitchell taking their time, has been a big difference.”
He also described the team’s increased versatility and aggressiveness.
“I just think the sets they’ve run have been more varied as well. They’ve run sets with Evan Mobley as a creator from the elbow. Max Strus is operating out of the short roll. Guys are in different spots on the wing. There’s more cutting, there’s more crashing. The offense looks like it is going to look completely different.”
Albeit having played just four preseason games together so far, Cleveland appears likely to have a changed offense from last season.
The Cavaliers looked to increase their shooting ability and interior presence with offseason additions of Strus, Georges Niang, Ty Jerome, Damian Jones, and Tristan Thompson.
In turn, Cleveland fans are hoping their new-look offense will lead to a further postseason result than last season’s first-round exit.
The Cavaliers will open their 2023-24 regular season on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM in a road game against the Brooklyn Nets.
