Ty Lue Gives Harsh Reality Check to LA Clippers

Ty Lue didn't hold back on the struggling Clippers.

Game after game, the LA Clippers have been finding new and embarrassing ways to lose at home. The team is 2-7 at home this month with the majority of losses either being blowouts against shorthanded teams or blown 20-point leads. They're a team that needs a brutal reality check.

That's exactly what head coach Ty Lue gave after yesterday's blowout loss against the Indiana Pacers.

Earlier this month, Paul George mentioned that the Clippers were playing without an identity. Now, James Harden is the most recent player on the team to say it. Ty Lue's heard enough of that talk, and knows exactly what type of identity the Clippers are supposed to be playing with.

"So identity for us, it's got to be toughness," Lue said. "Which means physicality, mental and physical toughness, a high-powered offense, we can score in a lot of different ways, and we got to have a defensive mindset."

That's the identity that Ty Lue wants the Clippers to have, the identity that the team had from December to February. With the way that the team is playing right now, Lue had much less kind words to say.

"And so right now, do we have an identity? I think, yeah, we're soft."

For over two months, the LA Clippers had a league-best 26-5 record. Since a successful 6-1 Grammy road trip, the Clippers returned home and suddenly played some of the worst basketball they've played this season, going 10-12. Lue wants the team to return to their old ways, and so do the fans.

"When we were 26-5, we had a great identity," Lue said. "So you can't pick and choose when you want to lead. You can't pick and choose when you want to have identity. You can't pick and choose when you want to do things the right way."

With 11 games left until the playoffs, the Clippers don't have much time to get it right now. They're going to have to, or there will be some serious questions to answer as they enter the Intuit Dome arena.
