BREAKING: Grizzlies Sign Former Suns Big Man

In this story:
It was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic that the Memphis Grizzlies are signing former Phoenix Suns big man Bismack Biyombo to fill their front court need in the absence of Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. It was announce shortly before the season began that Adams would miss the entire year, and it’s always remained a possibility that Clarke would be out for the season as well.
The Grizzlies have started the season winless at 0-3, and are likely feeling a sense of urgency to address their glaring hole at center before the season gets away from them. While it’s still early, the Grizzlies are learning quickly that life without Ja Morant and two of their key front court pieces is not going to be easy. While Biyombo is not a major game changer at this point in his career, he’s a serviceable veteran big man who gives the Grizzlies more insurance at that position.
In his announcement, Charania explained the signing, writing, “The Memphis Grizzlies are planning to sign center Bismack Biyombo, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Team is able to sign Biyombo via exemption after fifth game of Ja Morant’s suspension. Biyombo brings rim protection (1.4 blocks per game last season) with Steven Adams out.”
This makes sense, as the Grizzlies are utilizing the NBA’s rules to fill a roster need in the absence of key players. Looking to get in the win column after a tough start to the year, Memphis isn’t waiting around to address their center situation.
