Jaren Jackson Jr. Reacts to Grizzlies Acquiring Marcus Smart

In this story:
With their trade for Marcus Smart, the Memphis Grizzlies will be pairing the last two Defensive Player of the Year winners together. Jaren Jackson Jr. of course won the award last season, and recently shared his thoughts on teaming up with the former Boston Celtics guard.
"I already texted him, welcoming him. It's amazing," Jackson said. "It's not something you can really make up. It doesn't happen a lot. They said it was the first time ever, so I can't wait to pick up some things from him, learn from him, he always brings that special something a team. We know that, so I can't wait to be around him and really get to work."
Jackson said he can't wait to get back on the court and play basketball again, especially with his new teammate Marcus Smart. The two project to be a lethal defensive duo, especially while Smart gets increased playing time in the suspension absence of Ja Morant.
The Grizzlies were unhappy with the way their season ended last season, and believe they have done well to improve their roster from that group that lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. The addition of Smart gives them veteran leadership and defensive dominance, which are two areas the team was happy to improve in. Excited to play with his new teammate, Jaren Jackson Jr. can't wait to get back on the court.
