In a report from Drew Hill of the Daily Memphian, it was announced that the Memphis Grizzlies are hiring former Miami Heat assistant and director of player development Anthony Carter. As Hill noted in his Tweet, Carter is credited for helping the development of Max Strus and Gabe Vincent - two players who were integral in the Heat making the NBA Finals last season.

Player development is one of the more underrated dynamics in team building. While so much focus rightfully gets placed on roster construction and head coaching, those who work with the players on a daily basis are equally as important. The Grizzlies landing someone like Carter is a huge win for their organization.

While the Grizzlies already have an established core with Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr., all of these players are still young. The development of the Grizzlies' core players, along with their up and coming players, is something the organization is rightfully prioritizing. While player development is not the type of thing that fans see occur, they certainly get to see the results of it with improved play on the court.

Many NBA stars credit their player development coaches for helping them get to where they are today. While players enter the league with immense talent, this gets refined as their careers progress, and the Grizzlies hope Carter can help their players advance that process.
