Memphis Grizzlies Player Reacts to Being Waived

In this story:
It was announced on Sunday by Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the Memphis Grizzlies are expected to waive Kenneth Lofton Jr. to make room for Ja Morant's return from suspension.
This news was also reported last week by Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports who wrote, "While the Grizzlies have made calls around the NBA weighing rival teams’ interest in their end-of-the-rotation players, sources said, opposing front offices expect Kenneth Lofton Jr. to be the likely candidate waived before Morant’s return, if a trade doesn’t materialize in the coming days."
Lofton seemingly confirmed this reporting himself with a post on Sunday that thanked the Grizzlies, the Memphis Hustle, and the fans for his time in Memphis:
Appreciate all the love from the city of Memphis along with the opportunity given from the grizzlies and the hustle all love 🖤
— kenneth lofton jr. (@itzjunior35) December 17, 2023
Lofton showed some signs of potential at both the NBA and G-League level, but they were not consistent enough to keep him on the roster. The Grizzlies brought in veteran big man Bismack Biyombo with their exception granted from Morant's suspension, and his play has made Lofton the odd man out.
This is a tough break for Lofton, but at just 21 years old he should get an opportunity somewhere else after his release from the Grizzlies. Teams are always looking to add organizational depth, and with the flashes Lofton has shown, he should get a chance to join another organization at some point.
