In a recent report, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that the Memphis Grizzlies had genuine interest in pursuing Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green before their acquisition of Marcus Smart.

"I'm told that the Grizzlies' pre-Smart interest in Green was genuine," Stein reported via his Substack. "And it's fascinating to simply consider the idea of Green engaging Memphis in free agency conversations after the teams' past battles."

The animosity between Green and the Grizzlies has been well-documented; however, most of that was between Green and Dillon Brooks, who is not expected to re-sign in Memphis. While it wasn't just Brooks that Green had an issue with in Memphis, he was usually at the center of any beef between Green and the Grizzlies.

Coming up short against the Los Angeles Lakers this past postseason, Memphis recognized a need for change. Needing more playoff experience and overall veteran leadership, it makes sense why they would have interest in a player like Green; however, they're getting all of that in Smart now.

There has been no indication that Green intends to leave Golden State, so any reported interest across the league is likely just that. There are several teams who could use Green, and perhaps even offer him more than what Golden State can, but the veteran forward wants to remain with the Warriors.
