In a recent article, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported that the Memphis Grizzlies are exploring trades that would land backup point guard Tyus Jones somewhere he could become a starter. Jones has been an elite backup point guard for Memphis, but struggled mightily in the playoffs this past season.

Averaging 10.3 PPG and 5.2 APG in 80 regular season games for the Grizzlies last season, Jones was unable to replicate that production in the postseason, averaging just 4.5 PPG on 30.6% from the field. Fischer's report did not suggest this is why Memphis is looking to move on, but it does make sense why they would be open to dealing Jones for an upgrade at a different position.

With Desmond Bane capable of handling a more ball-dominant role in Ja Morant's absence, and a bench guard like Luke Kennard showing the ability to make plays as well, the Grizzlies may feel as if Jones is more valuable in a trade than on their roster. If the Grizzlies can bring back a solid starting forward in exchange for Jones, then a deal begins making even more sense.

For Jones himself, this could be an opportunity to elevate his career. It has been a productive tenure with the Grizzlies, but with no path to a starting role one Morant returns, getting the opportunity to run another team's offense could be good for Jones.
