In a recent article, The Athletic's Sam Amick revealed details of Ja Morant's meeting with Adam Silver that followed his first gun video incident. According to Amick, Morant had Silver convinced that he was genuine in his contrite message.

"They heard him blame the poor decision making inside that Glendale, Colo., strip club on the heavy drinking, recalling how the events of that night were all so fuzzy because of the booze that was flowing so freely," Amick wrote. "They believed him when he shared a message that was both humble and contrite. A lot can be said in more than an hour — that’s plenty of time to get extremely personal — and Morant had managed to convince the commissioner that he was genuine."

Amick added that Morant seemed to understand the gravity and dangerous nature of his actions. Silver was reportedly pleased with Morant's demeanor, and left the meeting hopeful that his behavior would change.

"According to sources with both direct and indirect knowledge of the meeting, granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, Silver — who would go on to give Morant an eight-game suspension for wielding a gun in public while intoxicated — was pleased with Morant’s demeanor and hopeful this would be the end of his nonsense," Amick added.

With Morant making the exact same mistake again, Silver has handed him a 25-game suspension that everyone hopes will finally result in better behavior.
