Shocking Story About Kobe Bryant Wanting to Join Memphis Grizzlies

NBA legend Jerry West joined the latest episode of Podcast P, which is presented by Wave Sports and Entertainment, and told a story about Lakers legend Kobe Bryant wanting to join the Memphis Grizzles:

"[Kobe] became a free agent. Ok? And he called me and his agent then was Rob Pelinka. And so I met them in Orange County in a hotel room and he said he wanted to come to Memphis and play basketball. And I looked at him, I said, are you kidding me? And he said no, and I said, Kobe, no, no. You know, it's just you belong somewhere out here. And even though he would have never played there, I just want to reassure him that don't feel like you have any obligation with me or the Grizzlies to play here and because he would have never played there, it wasn't gonna happen."

After his legendary playing career, West has worked as an executive with the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and now the LA Clippers. Believing that Kobe Bryant belonged in LA, West wanted to reassure him that Memphis was not where he needed to be.

It was a shocking story, as it's hard to imagine Kobe going anywhere other than the Lakers. While West believes Kobe would have never actually played for Memphis, The Logo did have that conversation with him.
