Trae Young on his Performance vs the Hornets: "I didn't want to play like that, I'm not going to play like that"

Young shot 4-19 from the field in the loss to the Hornets on Wednesday

It was a rough night for Trae Young and the Hawks against the Charlotte Hornets. The Hawks lost 116-110 to their division rival and in that loss, Young shot 4-19 from the field and only hit one three-point shot the entire night.

Young talked about his struggles after the game:

"I think we played good in spurts, we had good moments, the offense has not clicked the way we want it to, even in the preseason it did not click the way that we wanted it to. I gotta play better, I mean, I don't want to put anything on my teammates. I don't wanna shoot like that. It's tough. I didn't wanna play like that, I'm not going to play like that so yeah it was a tough night for sure."

Hawks are not going to win any games if both Trae Young and Dejounte Murray shoot a combined 7-33. The Hawks are built around their two star guards and if both of them have bad shooting nights, it is almost going to guarantee a loss. Young hit one three-pointer, but it came at the end of the game. He was not getting into the paint and hitting floaters either and it was just an overall struggle for him to put the ball in the basket. He was good at getting to the line, but it was not a typical game for the Hawks star point guard.

Trae Young

Trae Young struggled to shoot the ball against the Hornets

Just because Young struggled, he was not the only reason the Hawks lost. The offense as a whole was poor last night, especially shooting three-pointers. Whether it was Saddiq Bey, De'Andre Hunter, or Bogdan Bogdanovic, Atlanta struggled to find an offensive rhythm and it cost them their season opener.

I still think this can be one of the better offenses in the NBA and one bad performance does not change that. I think Young and the Hawks will bounce back fine, but it was a frustrating night for sure for Atlanta.
