In today’s sports world, advanced statistics are taking over.

The most popular one measures how much energy a player is giving out every season. A recent report went out listing the top 10 players who ran the most miles last season. Miami Heat’s center Bam Adebayo topped it with a total of 249.

Here’s the other nine players: Mikal Bridges, Jayson Tatum, Max Strus, Caleb Martin, Domantas Sabonis, Jaylen Brown, Harrison Barnes, Jimmy Butler and Anthony Edwards.

Adebayo played 2,598 minutes, missing only seven games. He played a huge role in the Heat’s playoff run as he averaged a career-high 20 points. But it’s important to notice the other names on the list. Strus, Martin and Butler played with him, leading the Heat to the Finals. They lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games.

Though their number of miles is impressive, it took a toll near the end.

While touring with the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders in Johannesburg, South Africa, Adebayo admitted that fatigue played a huge role in coming up short in the Finals.

"I feel like we just came up short because we had [among the most] injuries in the 2022-23 season," he said. "[Through] all those ups and downs throughout the season... I feel like fatigue had a toll.”

Injuries were another negative effect from all the miles they ran. During the semifinals against the New York Knicks, Butler sustained an ankle injury in Game 1. He continued to show signs of exhaustion throughout the playoffs.
